Event Log

To display the event log, select the "Event Log" command from the "Operation" menu, or simply click the log button .

You can also access the event log from the main screen by clicking on the tab at the bottom of the screen.

The event log contains the history of all significant actions that occurred on the Alert station and each remote station: user login, alarms, calls, acknowledgments, etc.

This log is saved in files, one file per day. These files are located in the "TRACE" subdirectory of the application's data directory. The date corresponding to a file is coded in its name as: TYYMMDD.LOG (with YY = year, MM = month, DD = day). See Event log file.

Journal header

Station

This drop-down list allows you to select the station whose journal you want to view. By default, the base station is selected.

Period

This control allows you to select the days to display. By default, the current day is displayed.

To select another day or a period of several days, click on the arrow to the right of the control. In the displayed window, select the start day ("From:") and the end day ("To:"). Click on "Apply" to display the event log for the selected period.

Filter ( )

This check box allows you to select which lines of the event log to display depending on the content of the "Time" or "Type" columns when checked.

When this box is checked, a button is displayed to the right of the column header "Time" and "Type".

  • By clicking on the button to the right of the "Time" column, a windows is displayed under the button for selecting the start time and the end time. Enter or select the start and end time and click outside the window to update the displayed log based on the selection made.

  • By clicking on the button to the right of the "Type" column, a check-list of the different types of events is displayed under the button. Existing types in the log for the selected period are displayed in bold. By default, all types are checked. Check the types you want to display in the event log, uncheck the types you want to hide. The "(Select All)" checkbox allows you to check/uncheck all types in the list. Once you have made your choice, click outside the checklist to update the displayed log based on the selection made.

When a selection of type is made, only the log lines corresponding to the selected types are displayed. In this state, the text "(You can double-click in the list to display the context of the selected line)" is written to the right below the log list.

To display the context of a displayed line (show hidden lines), double-click on this line. The event log is refreshed by displaying all the lines around the line in question, allowing you to analyze what happened before or after the event in question. In this state, the text "(Double-click again on the selected line to return to the selection)" is written to the right below the log list. If the selected line does not match the desired occurrence, double-click on that line again to return to the filtered view and select another line.

Search ( )

This control allows you to restrict the log lines to be displayed to those containing the character string entered in the edit field.

To select the columns in which the search is to be performed, click on the arrow to the right to display the check-list of the search columns under the control. By default, all columns are selected.

To perform a search operation, enter the character string to be searched in the edit field, then click on the symbol to the right of the edit field, or confirm the entry by tapping the "Enter" key on the keyboard. The list is updated by displaying only the lines containing that string in the selected search columns.

Note: it is possible to perform a more sophisticated search by using regular expressions (to search for an occurrence of 2 words in a string, for example). To validate this type of search, you must first validate the "UseRegularExpressions" option.

When the list display has been changed according to the character string, the symbol is displayed to the right of the edit field instead of the symbol . Click on this symbol to return to the original list, or delete the edit field and confirm with the "Enter" key on the keyboard.

As with the filtering of displayed lines by selection of event type, it is possible to display the context of a displayed line by double-clicking on that line (see above).

Journal bottom

List locked

This checkbox allows you to lock the scrolling of the list when a new event arrives when you want to view past events. When this check box is not checked, each new event causes the current day's last position to be automatically displayed (new event is viewed).

Note: List locking is automatically caused by scrolling from the list to search for a past event. It is also automatically caused by selecting a restricted display (filtering or searching) or by selecting a past period (current day not displayed).

When the box is unchecked, the log view is automatically refreshed on the last event of the current day.

Click on this button to print the displayed log (depending on the selected period and any filtering performed).

If this is the first print command, a dialog box is displayed to select the printer to use and print settings (Portrait/Landscape, ...).

This dialog box will no longer be displayed for subsequent print commands. To request to display again this box (to select another printer for example), hold the "Ctrl" key of the keyboard pressed when clicking on the button .

Export

It is possible to export the event log displayed (depending on the selected period and any filtering performed) in a text file or the clipboard.

To do this, right-click in the list and select the "Export..." command from the pop-up menu. In the displayed dialog box, choose the columns to be exported, the export format (header, separator) and the destination (file or clipboard).
