USB protection key not recognised

Symptom

The USB key is not recognized after installing Alert on a machine that already uses the Safenet license management solution (PCVue, etc.).

Cause

A Sentinel driver was installed during Alert setup, despite another Sentinel driver already existing on the system for different software.

Resolution

  1. Remove all Sentinel drivers using the cleanup utility from the Thales support portal (select the 32-bit or 64-bit version matching your system)
  2. Unplug all USB drives and dongles from the machine
  3. Restart the machine
  4. Reinstall Sentinel drivers through Alert setup — select only Protection key drivers
  5. Reconnect all USB drives and dongles
Prevention

If a Sentinel driver already exists on your system, uncheck "Protection key drivers" during installation of the Micromedia solution to avoid conflicts.
