Software starts in demo mode
The Alert software launches in demo mode, which can result from several underlying issues with the dongle or driver configuration.
Potential Causes
-
Dongle not connected: The security dongle is either disconnected or improperly seated in the USB port.
-
Missing driver: The dongle driver requires installation from the Alert installation media (DVD/USB key), located in the
Sentinelfolder. -
Insufficient permissions: Administrator rights are required for Alert to register its license in the system registry. Without proper permissions, the software cannot complete registration.
-
Faulty dongle: The
KeyDiag.exeutility on the installation media can diagnose dongle functionality. A successful result displays "No errors" — any other message should be documented via screenshot for support review. -
Driver conflict: If the dongle was connected before Alert was installed, Windows may have installed conflicting drivers that block proper dongle recognition.
Driver Reinstallation Procedure
- Connect the dongle
- Uninstall Sentinel Protection Installer 7.5.8 (SafeNet, Inc.)
- Remove associated USB device drivers through Device Manager
- Disconnect the dongle
- Restart the computer
- Install the Protection Key drivers from the Micromedia installation media
- Reconnect the dongle
- Launch the software
You must remove the dongle before reinstalling the driver to ensure proper installation.
Windows 7 and Later
- On initial startup, the dongle may not be recognized — restarting the computer resolves this.
- License file registration may fail due to registry access restrictions. Configure
Alert.execompatibility settings to Run as administrator.
